On Monday, November 3, 2008, I made the decision to close the Metropolitan Bar & Grill in the Ulrich City Centre.

Metropolitan was opened one year ago to help spur the growth and resurgence of our downtown Main Street shopping district. I felt, at the time, that Lockport could use a more modern, hipper restaurant and bar. The initial response from customers was that now we had a restaurant right here in Niagara County that felt like being in Chicago or New York City. However, the economy is the worst it’s been since the Great Depression, and surveys indicate 40% of customers are eating out less frequently.

I am very proud to have brought this restaurant to a city that has been very loyal and supportive of the Village Eatery for the past 29 years. Making the decision to close was a very difficult one, but, economically, one that had to be made.
